Why do you blog?

Here's a question for everyone: why do you blog?

Just in general, what promted you to start a blog, and what makes you continue to post on a regular basis?

For me, I love the internet. I don't meet and hang out with a ton of people all the time (gosh, that makes me sound like a loser). I'm at work all day, then I go to the gym after work, then I eat dinner, and then I go to bed. So, it doesn't leave me a lot of time to get out there and explore. I like reading posts about things going on in Memphis and in other cities too. I love to travel and see new things, so reading blogs about other areas of the world is interesting. I can travel without leaving my couch :)

It's an easy way to connect with people that you'd never meet otherwise - it's interesting to see what other people are doing. I'm a reality TV addict, so blogging is similar to that. It's an easy way to post a question and get some opinions without having to call up a dozen friends. I like food - and I like to read blogs about food. I love home decorating - and I love to read blogs with photos of homes and decorating. I like fashion - I like to read blogs about....well, you get the picture.

So vice versa, I hope that people get the same enjoyment from my blog. I little relevant info here and there about things going on in Memphis and elsewhere, some nice photos to look at, and just something interesting to read and take up a couple minutes of your day :)

I did it because it made me feel less bad about stalking other bloggers.

I read blogs for months before I ever started my own. Mr. Newlywed said to me "shouldn't you just start a blog before this gets any creepier?"

So I did.

What I do for a living is great but I have no outlet for creativity. The blog gives me a chance to be creative. And I have learned a lot by just by setting it up. Since I decided my blog would focus on downtown, it forces me to look at downtown in a new way, which was really a challenge since I've lived in Memphis all my life.

It started about 5 yrs ago and it was just a creative outlet for me to talk about my wild and drunk nights. You can go back and look at those in the archives. As soon as Chelsea peed on the stick it became about documenting my daughter's life. I plan to print and publish it for her and give it to her when she gets married. Shhh don't tell

yep. ditto to what others have said. i am a dorky engineer by day so blogging gives me a creative outlet and a way to connect with other people. as Juno said, "i like to be a piece of furniture in your odd little life."...that is how i feel about blogging.

Like the others, I mostly do it for a creative outlet. I like reading other blogs and feel like I'm participating in some small way in a global discussion. I started mostly to talk about wine because it seemed that a lot of mainstream wine press was dull or snobbish in tone and I hated to see people in my age group feel like it was out of their range to enjoy it.

I really started because most of my sorority sisters do it, but have found lots of other people that blog locally and such. I LOVE to take pictures and share them and we love to go out, whether out to eat or some local event, so I like to share that with others too. Also I'm really wanting to educate people in a fun way about my Pit Bulls and they are awesome dogs that you dont have to be scared of :)

It started as a food blog, but then, as I started following other blogs, I realized I wanted to share more than just my love of food.
Mr. Potts also jokes with me about someone pulling my string - like a chatty wind up doll that just jabbers when the string is pulled. So this gives me an outlet.
Plus, I like learning more about other people/places...

I started a blog almost as a journal and to have some record of events and fun things. I now use it for just about everything and like the others said, it is a creative outlet for me.
I also enjoy reading other blogs to find out about what people like to do and where they like to go in other places. I have also met some really nice people like you and that is just icing on the cake!

I re-started my blog at the urging of my soon to be daughter in law Amy. I originally did it in 2006 to document my road trip from Anchorage Alaska to NJ thru Canada, etc. Then stopped when I got back to Alaska.

When I began it again I started reading other blogs and found very interesting people and places and made some great new friends. I am inspired by and learn from many of my co-bloggers, including you. I also like to share my dogs with the readers.

I also agree with the other comments. I love reading about people's lives. It's cool to see decorating ideas, movie recommendations, and meet new friends all over the country. :-)
